How I discovered Earth Pigments Painting

One day I was at the beach I saw a broken stone. This stone had been in contact with the water and created a dark colour in the sand. I was so fascinated by the fact that the stone colored the sand and with the movement of the sea beautiful lines were drawn. It looked like a painting. So the sea painted literally those black lines in the sand and I have never realized that the dark color came from that stone.

I started to experiment and took some stones I found here at the coast to my home. Some were easy to crash, some were impossible to do so. After some time I figured out that not all the stones are made for pigments. Some others I could crash in pieces that I put after in the grinder to make them to powder.

I started to research the process of how to create pigments for painting from different stones and sand. It takes a lot of time to get the pigments ready for a paint but I love this process and especially it connects me to this area I live. It connects me with my hands touching the stones and sand and I do enjoy this sensation.

It seems a bit from another time far away from screens. And when I start than finally a painting with the pigments the Atlantic Ocean offers me, I forget everything around me. It is truly magical.

I have no idea where the journey of each painting brings me but this kind of abstract intuitive painting is exactly that what creates a lot freedom and space in my heart. It is infinite like the ocean…
